Spruce Up Your
Home With Quick & Easy Painting Tips
St. Louis, Mo. (Feb. 28, 2005)– For American homeowners, “spring
fever” means a rush to tackle all those home improvement projects they’ve been
waiting all winter to start. However, there are ways do-it-yourselfers can
streamline their projects with a few smart painting short cuts from the experts
at the makers of KILZ® Casual Colors® paint.
According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), springtime
home remodeling has grown steadily over the past three years. The Remodeling
Market Index (RMI), a quarterly national survey of professional home remodelers,
jumped 12.6 percent in the first quarter of 2004. After a winter indoors, many
homeowners are ready to refresh their homes inside and out. And one easy and
inexpensive approach is to add a fresh coat of paint to the walls.
The KILZ Casual Colors line of high-quality one-coat
paints, is the perfect way to easily refresh the look and feel of any room in
your home.
“Typically, we see paint sales start to climb as soon as spring’s mild
weather arrives,” said Michael Walsh, Vice President of Marketing and New
Product Development for the KILZ Casual Colors paint
manufacturer, Masterchem Industries LLC. “Of course, as excited as customers are
about painting a room, they’re just as excited to get the job done quickly. With
that in mind, we’ve developed the KILZ Casual Colors line
to be a quality paint solution that guarantees one-coat coverage for impressive
results.”
Six Tips To Paint A Room In A Snap
To refresh your home in no-time, the experts at the makers
of KILZ® products have developed a few tried-and-true
short cuts to deliver a professional-looking finish in no time flat.
- Don’t Pass on the Primer. Most primers dry in an hour, but
their benefits last
for years. Starting your painting project with
primed wall will require fewer coats of topcoat paint – and will ensure
your topcoat color matches your paint chip. Try KILZ
ODORLESS® or KILZ® Premium primers which are
designed to cover surfaces including wood, drywall and masonry.
- Add a Splash of Color. Ask your paint store to tint your
primer with a color that is a few shades lighter than your topcoat color. You
won’t need to use as much topcoat when you paint, which saves both time and
money.
- Thin Is Not In.Thinning your paint is not a good way to make a
little go a long way. Thinning actually requires you to use more coats because
thin paint doesn’t
provide solid coverage.
- Go Solo. If you’re in a real time pinch, select a topcoat
paint, such as KILZ® Casual Colors®, that guarantees one-coat
coverage.
- Mix It Up. When you’re painting a room that will require more
than one gallon of topcoat paint, pour paint from each gallon into your
painting tray. Because color can vary slightly from can to can, this ensures
the color on your wall is uniform.
- Do the Math. To avoid running back to the paint store to mix
another quart of paint, make sure you’ve done your math homework. A gallon of
paint typically covers 300-350 sq. ft. on smooth surfaces and 200-300 sq. ft.
on rough surfaces.
